MMUH - AMSSU (LEVEL 0)
Linham embarked on a transformative project situated within the Whitty Wing, spanning levels 0, -1, and -2, nestled amidst active hospital wards. From the outset, this endeavour faced the unique challenge of proceeding without a complete set of construction drawings. To navigate this, we stationed our design team's decision-makers on-site, enabling real-time decision-making during the critical initial eight weeks. This proactive approach, underpinned by the unwavering dedication of all involved, was instrumental in the project's success.

A primary obstacle was the site's accessibility, given its critical location within the hospital's operational spine, facilitating essential services like catering, administration, and COVID-19 patient admissions. We ensured minimal disruption to the hospital's functions through meticulous coordination with hospital management and innovative solutions, such as daily reconfiguration of containment barriers. This effort was complemented by a dedicated cleaning team, maintaining the highest hygiene and safety standards. Upon taking possession of the site, we identified and addressed fire safety compliance issues, underscoring our commitment to upholding the highest standards. The project also demanded intricate planning for new utility penetrations, necessitating close collaboration with the hospital's nursing staff to mitigate any impact on the ongoing hospital operations. Moreover, the construction phase posed a significant risk of Aspergillus infections due to dust generation. We countered this through stringent isolation measures and continuous oversight by infection control experts, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and hospital staff.
The project's timeline coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, presenting an unprecedented challenge. Recognising the urgent need for additional high-dependency wards, our team unanimously decided to continue operations, adopting stringent health and safety protocols to safeguard against the virus. These measures included enhanced site sanitation, mandatory use of personal protective equipment, and regular health and safety briefings, all contributing to a safe and compliant working environment.

Our journey through this project not only demonstrated our ability to adapt and innovate in the face of challenges but also reinforced our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art healthcare facilities. The successful completion of this project stands as a testament to the collective resolve and dedication of everyone involved, significantly contributing to the ongoing fight against COVID-19.
